Nestled just off OR-22 in the charming town of Mill City, Oregon, The Get-A-Way offers an inviting gateway to hearty American comfort food with a twist. This unassuming roadside gem might be easy to miss if you’re speeding by, but those who pause here quickly discover a memorable dining experience that’s worth every minute.
The diner is best known for its eclectic menu that masterfully balances classic favorites with inventive offerings. Sink your teeth into the Teriyaki Burger, where perfectly grilled patties meet a subtly sweet and savory glaze, or savor the rich, slow-cooked flavors of the Open Faced Pulled Pork sandwich. For those craving bold, satisfying sides, the Carne Asada Fries and crispy Tater Tots deliver irresistible textures and savory bursts that keep guests coming back for more.
Burgers here cover a delicious spectrum—from the fiery kick of the Jalapeno Burger to the smoky depth of the Sasquatch Burger, with options like the Breakfast Burger and Avo Burger catering to every craving. The house-ground patties, cooked just right, pair beautifully with fresh buns and creative toppings, showcasing a menu that feels both familiar and exciting.
The ambiance at The Get-A-Way perfectly complements its food. With a relaxed, almost nostalgic roadside charm, it feels like a home away from home. Ordering is refreshingly no-fuss—you place your order at the counter, then settle in, knowing that the friendly staff has everything under control. You bus your own table, which not only speeds service but adds to the casual, comfortable vibe.
Families will appreciate the thoughtfully curated kids menu offering classics like Chicken Strips, Grilled Cheese, and Mac & Cheese, ensuring young diners leave with happy bellies too. And don’t miss the house-made Lemonades—flavors like Strawberry, Mango, and Watermelon bring a refreshing, fruity finish that complements the richness of the main dishes.
What truly sets The Get-A-Way apart, however, is the genuine warmth of the service. As one visitor, Hank Minor, beautifully noted, the staff “made us feel welcomed and at home,” blending prompt and personable service with a quirky charm that elevates the entire dining experience. Whether it’s your first visit or your hundredth, you’re treated like a valued guest rather than just another customer.
Regulars rave that there’s something special in every bite. Alison Griffith’s endorsement of the clam chowder as “very good,” and Alan Bielefeldt’s praise for the chili burger being “fantastic,” highlight the consistent quality and depth of flavor showcased here. Even first-timers who were initially skeptical quickly become converts after tasting the juicy burgers and inventive sides. And while the creamy milkshakes with mix-in chunks like Reese’s or Butterfinger may not be everyone’s favorite, they remain a fun addition to the meal.
Ultimately, The Get-A-Way offers much more than just food—it provides a moment to slow down on your journey, savor classic American flavors with a unique twist, and enjoy heartfelt hospitality in a cozy, no-frills setting. If you find yourself driving through Mill City, do yourself a favor and stop by this local treasure. It’s a delicious reminder that sometimes the best places are the ones that feel like they were made just for you.

We've driven by this place for years. Today we actually decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. It's a roadside place and if you blink as you speed into Mill City, you'll miss it. But definitely stop in! You order at the counter first thing. This saves the awkward wait at the end of your meal for the check. You bus your own table, so that frees up the staff for personal delivery of your food. And the food? Hubby ordered the jalapeño burger and tots. It was perfect. A little overdone, but when a burger is cooked on a flat iron that's ok. The tots were a little overdone but how do you mess up a tot? Yum! I had the avo burger and fries. The fries are double cooked and crispy. The burger was served with thousand Island and pepper jack cheese. I was so full after eating but it was impossible not to eat it all. And I have to tell you ....having pepsi at a food place with burgers and fries like these was such a fantastic change. The vibe is rustic, and the service was super efficient and fast. Like I mentioned earlier, the personal delivery of my meal was a great touch. TIP: exit the restaurant in the back, take a right out of the lot and drive through the town. It will make it easier to leave if you're heading west. Don't forget to use the median! Like I said. You've driven by this place a million times. But since the fires of 2020, we deserve to stop and give this little hometown place some love.
It was good. The fries were the best part! Wr opted for the club sandwich and pulled pork Mac and cheese. The pulled pork Mac and cheese had a lot of onion - but the pork was PERFECT. Club sandwich was fine. We ordered two milkshakes to go - Reese’s and butterfinger. The milkshakes are vanilla with some mix in chunks - we would skip them upon return but will be back for fries for sure!
My favorite "go to" place. EVERYTHING is amazing! The staff are all very friendly. I recently tried the clam chowder and it did not disappoint! Very good!!
This was a fantastic place we stopped for lunch on our drive trip. When driving from Salem to Portland, there weren't many places to eat. However, this little restaurant had great juicy burgers and shakes. I even tried their chili burger and really enjoyed the taste. It's definitely worth the stop.
My wife and I stopped in here on a whim. Loved it. Funky charm. Really good food. But the owner and staff were the best part - friendly, personable, prompt service. Made us feel welcomed and at home. Heading back that way in the next week and are planning to stop again. Great place with heart.
The restaurant is clean , the staff very friendly, the bathroom is clean . I tried their jalapeno cheese burger. come with crispy fries not saggy. freah from yesterday . I had a mango milkshake which it was great . I see myself going soon ..
This place is amazing, I highly recommend it! We had breakfast and it was phenomenal. My wife had biscuits and gravy with two eggs and I had a special which was chicken fried steak with country gravy, eggs(scrambled) and potatoes. The plates were ENORMOUS, we both had to get take out boxes. The food was absolutely delicious, really the perfect breakfast. Their potatoes are like cut potatoes kind of squished and fried, they were SO good. The staff were really nice and the prices are very reasonable especially for the amount of food you get. We literally can not wait to go again.
Just stopped in for our first time on our way home from a weekend in Sisters…Hands down the best service and food of our entire trip! We had the brisket plate and brisket mac; and when you’re someone who Traeger’s a lot of meat and you meet your match…there’s a ton of respect for the quality they served!! Both in their friendly customer service, accommodations and the food!! We don’t get down this way often, but we will definitely be back!!! Thanks guys!!
